Hotkevich Palace invites you to a conversation-lecture about the new cinema of post-war Italy. The event is free and will take place on July 27 at 6:00 p.m.

While in 1945 Germany, as the largest film producer in Europe at that time, was recovering from the severe consequences of the war, and France, the birthplace of cinema, was going through not the best times, Italy confidently entered the map of cinema history. Italian neorealism arises as a reaction to post-war poverty, where there is hope for national rebirth after a devastating war.

. .

Young directors (Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, Vittorio de Sica, Giuseppe de Santis, and others) began to make films, despite the fact that the country's economy could not afford it, because, in their opinion, the real drama takes place in the life of the grassroots. Cheap film, unprofessional actors, the theme of poverty, shooting without scenery - these are the conditions that will later become postulates that will shape a new trend in Italian cinema.

All this and even more is planned to be discussed in the Hotkevich Palace. All features of the stylistic techniques of Italian post-war cinema will be considered using the example of Vittorio de Sica's film "Bicycle Thieves" (1948).

The conversation-lecture will take place in the Hotkevich Palace (1 Kusevicha St.).
