Many Lviv residents want to join volunteer activities but do not know exactly how to do it. Where to go? What is needed to find volunteering in Lviv? And what should be done there? So that you no longer have such questions, Afisha Lviv has searched for interesting volunteer initiatives in Lviv!
BUR Lviv
BUR Lviv is the Lviv branch of the public organization “Building Ukraine Together”. BUR is engaged in volunteer activities aimed at creating, restoring, and rebuilding youth and public spaces, emergency housing for families, dormitories for internally displaced persons, etc. The organization began its activities in 2014 and has been actively functioning ever since. Before the beginning of the full-scale invasion, BUR held volunteer camps in the eastern regions (some of the first cities where volunteer camps were held: Sloviansk, Semenivka, and Kramatorsk).
After February 24, 2022, the geography of the public organization’s activities has expanded significantly. It is now engaged in construction work in de-occupied territories and territories affected by Russian aggression.
And what is the BUR branch? These are local teams of proactive youth who seek to make changes locally and involve their peers in their hometowns and villages in volunteering and public life. Often, short camps (so-called “BURchyky”) are organized on weekends, where volunteers restore premises or deal with other pressing matters.
Currently, there are 7 BUR branches: BUR Lviv, BUR Transcarpathia, BUR Chernihiv, BUR Kharkiv, BUR Kyiv and BUR Okhtyrka. Before the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the number of branches was much higher. However, unfortunately, many of them had to be closed.
That is why, if you are looking for volunteering in Lviv, join BUR Lviv.

Weaving Nets
Even though some people do not consider weaving camouflage nets something urgent and super important, this type of volunteer activity is in high demand among the military. And here’s the problem: there are not enough volunteers to meet all requests from the front. So take sheets of paper, pens and write down the locations where camouflage nets are woven in Lviv:
- Academy of Arts (35B Kubiyovycha St., Building No. 2). Volunteers work daily without weekends from 10:00 to 19:00 (contact number: +380673712897, Olesya)
- Rynok Square 9 (cutting fabric and weaving camouflage nets daily from 10:00 to 20:00)
- The legendary Gunpowder Store (38 Gorodotska St., 3rd floor). Volunteers work: Monday-Friday from 10:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays from 11:00 to 16:00. Here’s a link to the official Instagram 🙂
- New Acropolis (7 Doroshenko St., 2nd floor) Volunteers work: Monday-Friday from 13:00 to 19:00, and on Saturdays from 15:00 to 19:00. Here’s a link to the official Instagram 🙂
It is also impossible not to mention the Lviv Regional Library for Youth named after Roman Ivanichuk, where every Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. anyone can help make trench candles for defenders (here is the link to the library’s Facebook page)

Walking animals in Lviv
This initiative is a real treasure for those who can’t imagine life without animals. The animal shelter “Home of Rescued Animals” always needs some kind of help. Be it financial, media, or physical assistance. Let’s talk in more detail about the third option now.
Shelter owners invite everyone to walk dogs from 10:00 to 19:00. If you are afraid that there will not be a place for you among those willing to walk animals, there is no need to worry about it. Unfortunately, the “Home of Rescued Animals” suffers from an acute shortage of volunteers to help with dogs during the winter season.
What’s more, the shelter houses not only animals from the Lviv region but also from occupied and de-occupied territories affected by Russian aggression. So don’t hesitate and hurry up to help the tails!
